Jörg Pilawa is one of Germany’s most popular television faces and is a quota magnet for ARD. Now he’s changing employers. Where the 56-year-old is going has not yet been officially confirmed.

Moderator Jörg Pilawa is leaving public service broadcasting after more than 20 years. From 2022 the 56-year-olds “will no longer be an exclusive presenter and showmaster for NDR and ARD,” announced the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR).

According to the “Bild” newspaper, the moderator will switch to the private broadcaster Sat.1. From there the ARD had poached Pilawa itself in 2001. The “Bild” reports that Sat.1 will broadcast Pilawa’s first show on the new broadcaster as early as the spring. Over the year, the entertainer is supposed to present different formats.

Sat.1 has not yet confirmed the change. A spokesman said: “We do not participate in personnel speculation. The fact is: Jörg Pilawa is a TV legend who suits every broadcaster.” Pilawa began his TV career in the mid-nineties with Sat.1, where he hosted the Bundesliga magazine “ran”, a talk show and a quiz program, among other things.

With a three-year break, Jörg Pilawa had been working for ARD and NDR since 2001, where he made a name for himself primarily as a quiz master. He presented the “Quizduell” weekly on ARD, the Saturday evening show “Quiz without Borders” and the traditional New Year’s Eve show. Pilawa hosted the “NDR Quizshow” on NDR television, sat on the advice team for “Hard to believe” and hosted the “NDR Talk Show” together with Bettina Tietjen.

Jörg Pilawa thanks ARD for 20 years

“With one interruption, I worked for ARD and NDR for over 20 years, where I was able to present numerous great and above all successful formats. I am very grateful to ARD and especially NDR for that. Of course you go after one like that long and intense time with sadness, “said the native of Hamburg.

ARD entertainment coordinator Frank Beckmann thanked Pilawa for his commitment: “Jörg Pilawa has decided to break new ground as a presenter and show master. He made the success of the quiz formats possible on the eve of the first. Unforgettable, as he did for days ‘Quizduell’ moderated live, although technically nothing worked. “

According to the NDR Pilawa can still be seen this year with shows that have already been recorded on Das Erste and NDR. Until the middle of the year he will moderate the “Quizduell” on Friday evening, and all episodes of the “NDR Quizshow” have already been recorded for this year. At the beginning of February, the first, ORF and Swiss television broadcast an episode “Quiz Without Borders” for the last time, moderated by Pilawa.
