Jonathann Daval sued for slanderous denunciation by his ex-in-laws

No family plot. Jonathann Daval, who is serving a twenty-five-year prison sentence for the murder of his wife Alexia in 2017, is summoned to appear by his ex-in-laws for slanderous denunciation, the latter’s lawyer said on Saturday. The main plaintiff is the brother-in-law of Alexia Daval, Grégory Gay, who had during the investigation in 2018 been accused by Jonathann Daval of having murdered his wife as part of a so-called family plot.

Jonathann Daval strangled his wife Alexia on the night of October 27 to 28, 2017 at their home in Gray-la-Ville (Haute-Saône). The next day, he transported his body to a wood before setting it on fire and sounding the alarm, claiming that his wife had not returned from her jogging. Alexia’s body was found two days later. For three months, Jonathann Daval had shown the face of a grieving widower in the media, before being confused, in the midst of the #MeToo wave.

Six months of lies

“What we blame are these six months of lies where Jonathann Daval accuses Grégory Gay of having killed Alexia with the complicity of his in-laws,” said Me Jean-Hubert Portejoie.

If he is found guilty of this new head, the murderer of Alexia Daval faces five years in prison. The in-laws, who are civil parties, are also claiming 60,000 euros in damages. “The facts are so obvious that it was suggested to us to proceed by way of direct summons” consisting of going directly to justice, explained the lawyer. “It saves time and avoids 18 months of investigation or instruction”.

A first consignment hearing is scheduled for early January before the Besançon criminal court, the lawyer for the accused’s ex-in-laws told AFP, confirming information from the daily. The Parisian.
