The interview takes place shortly before the European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin, where Jonathan Glazer’s film “The Zone of Interest” was nominated six times and inexplicably only won a single award, for best sound. However, his work, which opens in cinemas on February 29th, will soon have a chance at the Oscars; it has been nominated five times. “The Zone of Interest” is a very stylish film that uses beautiful images to tell the everyday life of the Höß couple, the commandant of Auschwitz and his wife, who live with their children in a villa that borders directly on the concentration camp. The film shows no violence and no sacrifice and yet makes what happened in this place so present to the viewer that it has already been written into film history. As a mandate to never forget.
