Joko and Klaas wanted to shred the quota – and got more viewers than “TV Total”

The shot backfired: Joko and Klaas actually wanted to reduce the quota on Wednesday evening. That worked – but only for the programs that were running afterwards.

If Joko and Klaas win 15 minutes of airtime in the duel against ProSieben, viewers can either prepare for highly relevant television or total nonsense. The latter was the order of the day on Wednesday evening: “We have decided to peter the ProSieben rate down to zero with your help,” Klaas Heufer-Umlauf explained the project. “Maximum failure for everyone involved. Project 0.0 percent.” Joko Winterscheidt added that they wanted to be anti-entertaining and boring until the very last person had switched off.

What the viewers then got to see could hardly be surpassed in terms of monotony: the two presenters lined up in a queue of people, to the droning of annoying synthesizer noises. To ensure that the message really got through to everyone, they underlaid the post with scrolling text that praised the competitor’s program. For example, an environmental documentary on 3sat, an Oscar-nominated drama on Arte, the popular “Wilsberg” thriller on ZDFneo, or the comeback of “Der Preis isthot” on RTL.

Joko and Klaas want to drive away the viewers

The two entertainers made a real effort to drive away the audience, nobody can blame them for that. Only: The well thought-out plan didn’t work out. In fact, “Joko & Klaas. Live.” 0.98 million viewers – more than the show “TV total”, which ran directly afterwards, which only attracted 0.96 million people to the screen.

The difference was even clearer if you look at the market shares in the target group of 14 to 49 year olds: Here the quota destruction program from Joko and Klaas won 13.7 percent to 12.1 percent over the format moderated by Sebastian Puffpaff. The journal “Zervakis & Opdenhövel. Live”, broadcast from 9.40 p.m., also fell well short of the potential with 0.45 million viewers.

From this point of view, the formulated goal of “petering the quota” was achieved – but only with the following programs.
