First they light up in the basement, then they gasp through Berlin – for a whole day, the TV entertainers Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf rule Pro Sieben. It’s a wild ride through 90s trash TV. Even another broadcaster is not safe from them.

After the entertainers Joko and Klaas set off large fireworks in a basement during a TV campaign in Berlin, her house broadcaster ProSieben warns of possible imitators. “The fireworks in the basement were monitored by professionals. There was no damage to the building. The rule is very clear: please do not repeat it at home,” a ProSieben spokesman told the German Press Agency on Sunday about the live spectacle that night. In response to a dpa inquiry, the Berlin fire department said there had been “no operation” that was “related to the ‘act’ described.”

Joko and Klaas took over the ProSieben program once for 24 hours. At midnight on Sunday, the two jokers greeted the TV audience from a rooftop in Berlin. “I can say whatever I want. Shit – I can say it. But I can also say: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 24 hours of ‘Joko and Klaas against ProSieben’,” said Klaas Heufer-Umlauf. Joko Winterscheidt stood on a ladder at a roof hatch because he apparently didn’t dare go on the roof.

The duo then carried fireworks into a basement on the site in the east of the city. Shortly afterwards, the two people who were outside set off the fireworks. It could be seen from camera angles in the basement and from outside a window that fireworks were going off. Smoke developed. The two then moved on through Berlin.

After a night program with repeats and best-of programs, the entertainers started Sunday morning with a live-streamed jogging tour across Berlin. “I’m seriously interested in letting people deeper into my private life,” Joko gasped as a camera crew on reels filmed the two. In the morning there was a clip show with excerpts from ProSieben talk shows from the 1990s. Afterwards, a kind of breakfast television was on the completely revamped program.

In the meantime, they also took over the direction of the sister station Sat.1. The duo were actually only supposed to use the Berlin studio of the Sat.1 breakfast television for their 24-hour campaign on ProSieben as soon as it was empty. At least that’s how it was first announced. Joko and Klaas burst in in the last minutes of the ongoing Sat.1 live broadcast. The Sat.1 cameras filmed them as they prepared the studio’s kitchen for their own breakfast.

Suddenly Klaas asked: “Can we just take over the Sat.1 camera?” The moderators in the studio did not intervene. Joko and Klaas’s program could then be seen on both channels from different camera perspectives. It initially remained unclear whether the hijacking of Sat.1 had been agreed with the television company and how long the broadcast was to be broadcast on both channels.

24 hours of nonsense with Joko and Klaas

As expected, the campaign initially appealed primarily to the younger audience. In the target group of 14 to 49 year olds, which is important for advertising marketing, a very good 10.1 percent (260,000 people) tuned in from midnight onwards. In the overall audience, the ratings success was much more manageable at 5.4 percent (490,000 viewers). There were initially no figures available for the entire night.

The two of them got the entire program day this week on the show “Joko and Klaas against ProSieben”. If the two win there, they can usually do whatever they want for 15 minutes live on prime time television the day after. The TV audience only finds out what’s on the program live when the action begins. This time they won 24 hours. According to the broadcaster, this is a one-off prize in the anniversary season.
