Johnny Depp is currently known as King Louis XV. in front of the camera. The production company has now released a first photo of his role.

Johnny Depp (59) takes on the role of the French King Louis XV in the film “Jeanne du Barry” by Maiwenn Le Besco (46). (1710-1774). Maiwenn will play alongside Depp, one of the French king’s last mistresses, Jeanne du Barry (1743-1793). Now the production company Why Not Productions a first photo released by Depp in his role.

Start of shooting in France

It shows Depp with a long white wig and a white powdered face. He also wears a white hat and a black cloth covers his eyes. As “Deadline” reports, the eleven-week shooting of the film began at the end of July and is to take place in the Palace of Versailles, other palaces around Paris and in the studio. The drama is loosely inspired by the life of Jeanne du Barry, the last royal mistress of Louis XV. at the court of Versailles.

Louis XV, born and died in said castle, was King of France from 1715 to 1774. At the age of 16 he took over the business of government himself. He maintained a passionate relationship with the well-known mistress Marquise de Pompadour (1721-1764). Initially celebrated as “the well-beloved”, Louis XV. later to “the unloved” as he was blamed for the grievances suffered under Louis XVI. (1754-1793) led to the French Revolution.

The film portrays Ludwig’s relationship with Jeanne du Barry, with whom he “falls madly in love”. Against all etiquette, the courtesan Jeanne moves to Versailles, where her arrival outrages the court. For Depp, who recently made the headlines with his legal disputes with ex-wife Amber Heard (36), it is the first feature film role in three years according to “Deadline”. In 2019 he was in front of the camera for “Minamata”. The other cast of “Jeanne du Barry” include Benjamin Lavernhe (37), Pierre Richard (87), Melvil Poupaud (49) and Noémie Lvovsky (57).
