Following Amber Heard’s allegations, Johnny Depp’s earnings have plummeted. That’s what his agent did in court.
The alleged allegations by Amber Heard (36) apparently meant a heavy financial loss for Johnny Depp (58). At least that’s what Depp’s agent Jack Whigham said according to media reports out in court. Heard allegedly accused her then-husband Depp of domestic violence after their split in 2016. The actor is now suing his ex-wife for defamation. The trial was just entering its second week in Virginia.
From $35 to $4 million in one year
Since 2016, Depp’s fees have fallen massively. According to reports, Whigham calculated this in the courtroom. In 2017, the actor earned 35 million US dollars (about 33.3 million euros) with three major studio films and two independent productions. According to the agent, in 2018 it was only 4 million (3.8 million euros) that Depp earned with two small films.
One of the two productions, the drama “Minamata”, got into financial difficulties due to Depp’s image damage. The film could only be saved if the actor waived part of the fee.
Due to Heard’s allegations, Depp also allegedly lost the lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, according to his agent. Disney is said to have promised Depp 23 million (22 million euros) plus a profit share for the film.
Allegations as a “death sentence” for Depp’s career
Whigham called Heard’s allegations a “death sentence,” a “disaster for Mr. Depp in the Hollywood community.” Since 2020 he has not been able to accommodate his client in a film.
For Amber Heard, too, the process entails image damage and possible professional disadvantages. For example, a petition calls forto drop the actress from the planned superhero sequel “Aquaman 2”.

Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for $50 million (€46 million) over a 2018 post she published in the Washington Post. In it, she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. She did not mention her ex-husband by name. Depp claims the post nonetheless ruined his career, damaged his reputation and cost him a lot of money as a result. Heard is said to have filed a $100 million counterclaim against her ex, according to Variety.
Depp and Heard began dating in early 2012 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary. The Hollywood stars got married in 2015. The marriage lasted only 15 months. The actor lost a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper “The Sun” in Great Britain in 2020. The newspaper had described Depp in an article as a “wife beater”. Depp has denied all allegations of domestic violence.
