The contributions for the PS congress in January in Marseille are beginning to unfold. The socialist mayor of Nantes Johanna Rolland and a hundred elected officials launched an appeal on Saturday for a “social, ecological and European left”, pleading for a common list of the PS and the Greens in the 2024 European elections.
Published on the website of Sunday newspaper, this text called “Dare! does not comment on the different lines within the socialist party, favorable or hostile to the agreement sealed with LFI in the left-wing coalition Nupes. But “we indicate the lines on which we cannot compromise. We are for example for a socialist and ecological list for the Europeans, ”underlines Johanna Rolland.
Disagreements with LFI over Europe
In this contribution, signed in particular by the mayor of Rennes Nathalie Appéré, that of Nancy Mathieu Klein or the deputy Guillaume Garot, these elected officials explain having chosen “in conscience the electoral agreement” with LFI in the legislative elections, within Nupes, ” while clearly accepting a certain number of disagreements, in particular on Europe”. Among other proposals, these elected Socialists are first calling for an “ecological bifurcation”: it “will be imperative to create green investment funds, at all levels, local, national and European, which go beyond the framework of debt and financial pacts”, they plead.
They demand a “mechanism to limit wage gaps”, the restoration of the solidarity tax on wealth (ISF) and consider “imperative to maintain a strongly protective social safety net for those who have fallen into precariousness”. This contribution also insists on the fight against the “multiplication of medical deserts” and is in favor of “regulating the installation of medical professions”. And on the school side, these elected officials want to “involve all the colleges, where inequalities crystallize, both public and private under contract, in the sectorization”.
“We propose to open to all of them general states of the European social-ecologist left (…) From the European elections of 2024, we propose that the social-ecologist left presents itself united on the same list”, continues the text . “This will be the first step in the process of developing a platform for the 2027 presidential election and the establishment of an open mode of selection of whoever will carry the hopes of the left,” concludes this contribution. At the end of January at the congress, the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure will defend his strategy of inclusion in the Nupes against his detractors.
