Joe Biden to visit the three iconic locations of the 9/11 attacks

A painful anniversary, twenty years after the events and when the United States has just left Afghan soil. Joe Biden will visit the three emblematic sites of the attacks on Saturday, September 11: in New York, in Pennsylvania (east) and on the Pentagon site, the White House announced on Saturday.

“Commemorate the lost lives”

The American president and his wife Jill Biden want according to a press release “to pay homage and to commemorate the lost lives” by going to New York, where fell the twin towers of the World Trade Center; in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where a plane hijacked by four jihadists crashed; and in Arlington, Virginia, not far from Washington, where the US Department of Defense was attacked.

Joe Biden had wished to symbolically mark this twentieth anniversary by the orderly withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, where they had been sent following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

But the war in Afghanistan ended in chaos, with the United States taken aback by the rapid advance of the Taliban and 13 American soldiers victims of an attack in Kabul.
