US President Joe Biden likes to present himself as dear “Uncle Joe”. Some of his employees have now reported to the US portal “Axios” about a completely different side of their boss.

According to a media report, Joe Biden has much less control over himself than it appears from the outside. “Uncle Joe,” as the US President is also known because of his carefree, down-to-earth demeanor, tends to yell and swear at employees, writes the US news site Axios. Biden was so short-tempered that some members of his staff tried to avoid meetings with him alone and brought a colleague with them as a sort of protective shield.

The US President’s tirades included phrases such as: “Damn it, why don’t you know that?!”, “Don’t kid me!” and “Get the fuck out of here!” reports “Axios”, citing current and former employees of Biden, who said they had witnessed such outbreaks and had been affected by them themselves. The outbreaks hit both senior and junior government officials. “No one is safe,” said one administration official.

Joe Biden puts employees through the wringer

“When Biden exploded, and he did that quite often, he would say, ‘Damn, you didn’t tell me anything different than last week,'” a former Washington Post official described the president’s conduct during deliberations on the refugee crisis at the US border. “Then 10 minutes later he said, ‘I’m sorry, I know everyone’s trying.'”

According to Axios, some government officials reported that being yelled at by Biden was a kind of initiation rite in the White House. If someone doesn’t get yelled at, Biden doesn’t respect them either. His outbursts reflected his “high expectations”. They took the form of angry interrogations rather than uncontrolled outbursts of anger. He puts his employees through their paces until it is clear that they do not know the answer to a question.

Chris Whipple, author of “The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House”, confirmed the portal to the representations of the employees. “There’s no question that Biden’s temper is real. It may not be as volcanic as Bill Clinton’s, but it’s definitely there.” In his book, Whipple quotes former White House press secretary Jen Psaki as saying, “I have [Biden] repeatedly said, ‘I’ll know we have a really good, trusting relationship the first time you yell at me.'” Psaki didn’t have to wait long, the author writes.

According to Axios, some White House advisers believe Biden would be “better off” showing his temper more in public to “allay voter concerns that the 80-year-old president is disengaged and too old for the office is”. Sometimes it even happens: In January 2022, Biden was caught by a still-open mic saying, “What a bastard” to Fox News host Peter Doocy. And a few months earlier, after a critical question about a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he snapped at CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins: “What the hell are you doing all the time? (…) If you don’t get it, you’re in the wrong business.”

But after the incidents, Biden quickly became the nice uncle who loves aviator sunglasses and ice cream: The President approached both Collins and Doocy and apologized over the phone for his freaks.
