The president quoted a passage from the decision of the Supreme Court, which revised on June 24 the case law which, since 1973, had protected the right to abortion throughout the United States. He then declared aloud the instruction “repeat the sentence (repeat the line)”, before repeating the quote he had just pronounced. The sequence caused many taunts on social networks. Faced with the many reactions, the teams of the American presidency attempted a pirouette, ensuring that Joe Biden had actually uttered the phrase “let me repeat the line (allow me to insist, or I repeat)”.

The words “let me” are however inaudible in the video, but were added in the transcript of the speech in question, published by the White House.

In 2008, in the middle of the campaign for Barack Obama, Joe Biden had launched “Chuck get up!”, wanting to pay tribute to Chuck Graham, former senator in the assembly of Missouri, and paraplegic.
