The deputy leader of the Free Voters parliamentary group, Joachim Hanisch, is withdrawing from state politics at the end of the year. The parliamentary group praised the 73-year-old as a “man from the very beginning”, “it pains us to let go of such a political heavyweight, but of course we respect the decision,” said chairman Florian Streibl. For example, with the abolition of the contributions to road expansion, Hanisch had made a policy “which is in the best sense of the word people-oriented”. Born in Schwandorf, he used to be a local politician. Robert Riedl (Bad Kötzting) succeeds him in the state parliament.
