Jill Lepore excellent – culture

This year’s Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought goes to the American historian Jill Lepore. The jury recognized her as an outstanding scientist who was able to tell and shed light on American history from different perspectives, as the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the city of Bremen announced on Thursday. Lepore does not unilaterally present the history of the United States as a history of powerful governments that ruled over the citizens. Rather, it portrays it as a story of conflicts and dynamics between various groups and factions, such as the English, other colonial powers, enslaved people, women, the various ethnic groups of the settlers and political elites. The winner is a Harvard history professor and essayist.
