Jewel and waste for Strasbourg-OM, new Kyrie Irving scandal and orgy of goals in Ligue 1? Sunday’s platter

What you may have missed between last night and this morning

1. Football – Ligue 1: OM ruined everything

We really wonder how Olympique de Marseille failed to end their black series in Strasbourg… Dominating against a really limited Alsatian team, the Olympians led 2-0 thanks to Bamba Dieng and Issa Kaboré before Lebo Mothiba and especially Kevin Gameiro, a gem in added time, brought the score to 2-2. OM are six points behind second-placed Lens. A hell of a mess.

2. Formula 1 – Mexican Grand Prix: Verstappen, of course

Obviously we titled? Seeing Max Verstappen start on pole at a Grand Prix this season is not so obvious, even if his domination may suggest the opposite. Above all, his Red Bull was not necessarily the favorite of the qualifying session, a role rather devolved to Mercedes. The Batavian still got away with it but at the end of the interminable straight line until the first corner, he will have to contain the attacks of George Russell (2nd) and especially Lewis Hamilton (3rd).

3. Basketball – NBA: Irving responds to the controversy, everything is going badly for the Nets

While Kyrie Irving once again made headlines by promoting an anti-Semitic film on social networks, journalists discussed the subject at a press conference. Which didn’t sit well with the Nets star who replied that posting a movie poster on Twitter was not like promoting it. The exchange with the journalists was strong. On the floor, Brooklyn Nets was beaten for the fifth time in six outings last night against Indiana (125-116).

And also…

Soccer – Liga : Barça can thank Robert Lewandowski goalscorer in stoppage time against Valencia (1-0). Barcelona are provisional leaders.

Soccer – Copa Libertadores : Flamengo won the third Copa Libertadores in its history by beating the Athletico Paranaense of Luiz Felipe Scolari (1-0).

Rugby – Top 14 : Bayonne offered the leader, Stade Toulousainon behalf of the 9th day of the championship (26-22).

Rugby – World Cup (W) : England and Canada will meet in the semi-finals after their respective victories against Australia and the United States.

Boxing : Jake Paul rolled Anderson Silva in this highly anticipated fight on Saturday night. Silva was knocked down twice and the judges were unanimous on his opponent’s success.

To see, listen to or read on Eurosport

Final day in tennis and on Eurosport, the little yellow ball channel, you won’t miss a thing! First in Vienna where Daniil Medvedev challenges Denis Shapovalov (2 p.m.). Then in Basel where the invincible Félix Auger-Aliassime will face Holger Rune for the title (3 p.m.). Yes, it will take two screens and, maybe, two pairs of eyes, but the posters are worth the effort, right?

It’s Sunday, we take our time and we enjoy. What could be better then than to redo a Great Story in a podcast? This week, we bring you the story of the disappearance of Alain Colas and his mythical “Manureva” on the Route du Rhum 1978.

Do we have the right to be beautiful without being effective? This is the question that Cyril Morin asks you this Sunday morning. Thursday night, Antony’s spinning top excited Old Trafford but raised the hairs of a huge part of the observers. So, in your opinion, should beauty always be effective? Do we still have the right, in football, to have fun?

The question of the day: Will Ligue 1 still panic the counters?

You have probably noticed, the 2022/2023 vintage of our good old Ligue 1 is prolific in goals. The average has exceeded three per match (3.08) since the launch and the 13th day started strong with the success of Lens over Toulouse (3-0), PSG over Troyes (4-3) and the draw between Strasbourg and OM (2-2). Fourteen achievements in three outings is an excellent start. Will the others follow suit to get the 38 goals of the 3rd day?

What if Blanc wasn’t so old-fashioned?
