The Czech tool manufacturer JetBrains has taken its AI Assistant out of beta and released it as production-ready. The artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool is available in commercial development environments (IDEs) with version 2023.3 from the flagship IntelliJ IDEA to ReSharper as well as in Fleet.

The AI Assistant offers functions such as a chat that takes the project context into account, automatic refactoring suggestions, code completion and enables writing documentation and generating commit messages.
AI Assistant provides programming assistance
The AI Assistant functions appear to integrate seamlessly into JetBrains products and are powered by the JetBrains AI service, which is based on both OpenAI and its own Large Language Models (LLMs). AI Chat acts as an aid to development questions by taking into account information about the current file and project. The AI Assistant is intended to provide precise answers to function explanations, task completion and debugging questions.
AI service subscription required
The AI Assistant is available to customers of the paid IDEs and requires an AI service subscription from JetBrains. According to the blog post, access to the AI service is limited to certain areas. Further information about JetBrain’s innovation can be found in the announcement post on the JetBrains blog.
