Jérôme Boateng does not accept a fine of millions – the legal dispute is being appealed

Twice Jérôme Boateng was in court, twice he was found guilty of assault. But the football world champion does not want to accept the verdict. Now the process goes into revision.
The legal dispute over the alleged bodily harm by ex-national player Jérôme Boateng is being appealed to the Bavarian Supreme Court. Boateng’s defence, the joint plaintiff and the public prosecutor’s office have all filed an appeal against the judgment of the Munich I Regional Court of November 2, 2022 and justified it in a timely manner. This was announced by the Higher Regional Court on Friday.
Jérôme Boateng is to pay a fine of 1.2 million euros
The district court had found the 34-year-old guilty of attacks on his ex-girlfriend during a vacation together in the Caribbean and sentenced him to a fine of 120 daily rates of 10,000 euros each – a total of 1.2 million euros.
Should the verdict become final, the 2014 soccer world champion would have a criminal record. Boateng’s former partner also appealed, as did the public prosecutor’s office.
In 2021, Boateng had already been found guilty of intentional bodily harm by the Munich district court. At that time, a fine of 60 daily rates of 30,000 euros each was imposed – a total of 1.8 million euros. If more than 90 daily rates are convicted, they are considered to have had a criminal record. Boateng appealed against this judgment before the Munich I Regional Court.
The Bavarian Supreme Court must now decide whether there may have been procedural or legal errors in the judgment against Boateng. Unlike an appeal, a revision no longer examines the actual circumstances of the case.
