In the bath: Jennifer Lopez reveals how Ben Affleck proposed to her

In her newsletter, Jennifer Lopez details how Ben Affleck proposed (again) for her. The two got “a second chance for true love,” she says, among other things.
Their relationship made headlines, rumors and hordes of paparazzi following their every move in the early noughties. In 2002, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got engaged, but the wedding was repeatedly postponed until they finally split in 2004. Almost 20 years later, “Bennifer”, as they were then christened, are a couple again.

And while they’re no less glamorous and famous today, the pair’s second engagement was kept low-key and simple. In her newsletter, Jennifer Lopez revealed how Affleck proposed (again). “Saturday night while I was in my favorite place on earth (in the bathtub) my lover proposed to her,” she wrote. “I looked him in the eye, smiled and cried at the same time and tried to understand the fact that this is happening again after 20 years,” reveals the musician. She was so “taken by surprise” that Affleck apparently could not interpret her reaction immediately.
“I was literally speechless and he said, ‘Is that a yes?’ I said, ‘Yes, of course that’s a yes,'” she recalled. “I was smiling so much and tears were running down my face, I felt so incredibly happy and whole. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was the most romantic thing I could have ever imagined,” she writes in her newsletter to fans . “Just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people who promise to always be there for each other. Two very lucky people. Who got a second chance at true love.”
Colored diamond like the first time
The first time he proposed to Lopez, Ben Affleck did so with a $2.5 million pink diamond. Again he chose a colored stone, a green diamond flanked by two smaller ones. JLo told presenter Diane Sawyer of the engagement at the time: “[Es war] traditionally, but also in a very spectacular way, which of course Ben would do.”
At the time, Affleck and Lopez were forced to postpone their wedding due to the media attention. “When we seriously considered hiring three different ‘fake brides’ in three different locations, we realized something was wrong,” they said in a statement at the time. No wonder the two don’t want to reveal anything about the wedding planning on the second try.
