Jean Castex announced this Saturday that the State would contribute 200 million euros for the Toulouse metro, during a trip to Occitania, shortened due to the fatal attack on a policewoman in Rambouillet the day before. The project for the 3rd metro line was described as “original and intelligent” by Jean Castex, “happy that the State is participating in the financing” to the tune of 200 million euros, a figure previously mentioned by The Municipal Gazette and the local press in Occitanie.

The construction of the 3rd Toulouse metro line is due to start in 2022 but its commissioning is delayed from 2025 to 2028 due to the health crisis, the mayor (LR) of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc announced at the end of December. Line C, the cost of which is “estimated at 2.7 billion euros” must notably serve the Airbus factories, and the west of the Toulouse metropolitan area. Of 27 km, it is as long as the first two lines put together and must withdraw, according to the town hall, 90,000 cars in the agglomeration.

Jean Castex also mentioned a “envelope of one billion euros”, of which 20% will therefore be directed to the Toulouse metro. “We are reinvesting in the hydrogen train but also in rail freight. We are reopening night trains. We are deploying ourselves in all areas ”, also clarified Jean Castex. “We need to consolidate long distance. We let them degrade. The use of high speed is a factor in opening up. Here in Toulouse, it’s a work site that unites us, ”he said.
