American jazz singer and entertainer Tony Bennett is dead. Bennett died in New York shortly before his 97th birthday, his publisher Sylvia Weiner told the AP news agency. She did not name a cause of death. Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016. He was considered the last of the great saloon singers of the mid-20th century.

He became internationally known with titles like “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”. Bennett released more than 70 albums, earning him 19 Grammys, all but two, after reaching his 60th year.
