Japanese Exchanges Launch Another Crypto ATM in Tokyo and Osaka

Gaia Co. Japan Exchange to Launch Crypto ATMs in Tokyo and Osaka and has outlined plans for an additional 130 units over the next three years.

Gaia Co., Ltd. announceOn August 2, it will soon launch a Crypto ATM or BTM that supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC).

Although Bitcoin ATMs were introduced in Tokyo in early 2014, the country has not seen any digital asset ATMs operational since the winter of 2018, when local exchange Coincheck was hacked worth 530 million. Dollar has lost interest in ATMs.

Initially, ATM machines will be installed in various locations throughout Tokyo and Osaka. But the company has indicated plans to install 50 locations across the country within the next 12 months. The company said it hopes to increase its installation base to 130 within the next three years.

The ATM will allow users to withdraw a maximum of $747 (100,000 JPY) per transaction, with a maximum withdrawal limit of $2,243 (300,000 JPY) per day, where the withdrawal limit is part of anti-money laundering measures.

As reported on August 3fromLocal media outlet Mainichi Shimbun stated that Gaia’s move would mark the first time a locally-registered crypto company has installed a crypto ATM in Japan.

In order to withdraw funds, the user must register with the company to receive a special card and once approved. Users will then be able to send assets to ATMs via smartphones and withdraw cash in yen.
