Janelle Monáe reveals she feels beyond the categories of male and female. She had previously described herself as pansexual.

Janelle Monáe, 36, has identified as a non-binary person. “I don’t just see myself as a woman,” said the singer and actress on “Red Table Talk,” Jada Pinkett Smith’s (50) talk show. “I feel like God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or the ‘she,'” Monáe said. “And if I come from God, I am everything.”

As the Music magazine “Rolling Stone” reports, but Monáe still uses the pronouns “she” and “your”. In the “Red Table Talk” she also stated that she wanted to continue to support women. You just see yourself beyond the binary.

Coming out as pansexual earlier

The actress (“Hidden Figures”) came out as queer in “Rolling Stone” in 2018. She told about relationships with men and women. She initially considered herself bisexual, but then identified as pansexual. So she is attracted to people regardless of the male and female categories.

So she said now that she looks first at a person’s “energy” and then at their gender. “It opens up the possibility of falling in love with any beautiful spirit,” she said.

Janelle Monáe opened up late to her family. “My whole family is church, church, church,” she said. She asked herself, “What does it mean to go against the whole family with this thing?” But her father reacted positively, while her sister suspected it. Only her mother initially had a few questions.

Only after she had settled the matter with her family did the musician dare to go public.
