Jan Ullrich
Ex-cycling professional shocked with coke confession
The teaser for the prime documentary “Jan Ullrich – The Hunted” has been released – and in it the ex-professional cyclist shocked with a drug confession.
The fans of cycling legend Jan Ullrich (49) can expect a special insight into the life of the 49-year-old. As Amazon Prime Video announced, the four-part documentary series “Jan Ullrich – The Hunted” will be available on the streaming service on November 28th. A first teaser was published on Tuesday (July 18) in which the former professional athlete shocked with a confession: “I took cocaine in bulk. I drank whiskey like water.” According to his own statements, the abuse of the addictive substances drove him “until shortly before death”.
Today Ullrich seems to be very reflected. About his earlier behavior he says: “20 years later you recognize the mistakes you made.” He also talks about his doping scandal. As part of the 2008 Tour de France, he said he “never cheated on anyone”. “It was wrong that I didn’t cheat on anyone,” he emphasizes today. At that time he related the statement to his competitors. It’s now clear to him: “Of course, the fans are also part of it.”
Jan Ullrich and the close friendship with Lance Armstrong
The documentary, which, according to Prime Video, sheds light on Ullrich’s “ups and downs”, allows experts such as sports doctors or his former opponent and friend Lance Armstrong (51) to have their say in addition to the protagonist. The latter describes Ullrich in the teaser as a “child prodigy”.
In December 2022, Ullrich gave an interview in which he finally gave up alcohol and drugs. “I always thought I didn’t need help. Now I’ll take it!”, he said of “Sport Bild”. After psychological help and hypnosis, it helped him above all to have “a stable environment”. Today he counts Armstrong among his closest friends. The American has also “been through a lot”. Therefore, both could “understand how the other is doing.”
