I think Helga Ursula Glas is one of us for us. Our small and large German bourgeoisie, our longing, our love for the provinces, the longing for sovereignty, for all the contradictions, for a life with and without romance, with and without catastrophe, for Hegel and Heine and Strittmatter, Uschi probably has that Glass lived for us. Now she’s turning 80, and recently Robert De Niro turned 80, and when I started writing these lyrics, the beautiful song came to me Bananarama in my head, “Robert De Niro’s Waiting”, this beautiful melody, and the image of De Niro standing there.
