James Cameron absolutely wanted to shoot his highly anticipated “Avatar 2” underwater

James Cameron has been preparing the sequel toAvatar, and for good reason. Very quickly, the filmmaker realized that he could only accomplish his vision by filming underwater. A real technical puzzle that obviously put off the technical teams as well as the studios.

But as usual, James Cameron was able to convince everyone to follow him, even though a new filming device had to be set up, resulting in huge costs. “My colleagues in the production really campaigned very hard to do it ‘in the dry’, by attaching people to cables”, explained the filmmaker to Entertainment Weekly, by disclosing some pictures of the shoot.

An evidence

“I said, ‘This is not going to work. It won’t be realistic ”. I even let them do a test where we ran dry, then we shot underwater, and it was a rough rendering of our aquatic catches. [Les prises au sec] were far from coming close, ”continued James Cameron.

Avatar 2, due for release in December 2022, and Avatar 3 scheduled for 2024 will mark the director’s reunion with Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet. And as with Alien, Titanic and the first Avatar, James Cameron is preparing to take cinematic entertainment to a new level with a new kind of 3D image. We can’t wait for December 2022 to see the results!
