The rumor mill has been churning for years: Who will next be given the license to kill and crowned the new James Bond? We want to know your opinion.

For a moment it seemed as if the decision had been made: Aaron Taylor-Johnson was said to be very close to signing the contract that would have made him the next James Bond. This would mean he would have joined the surprisingly short line of actors who have been allowed to play the double zero agent so far. But then came the denial. The race for the role is open again.

The list of possible successors is long: With Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain are not only big names, but also very different versions of the super spy. But which bond do they want? star-Readers really? We want to know your opinion.

James Bond: Who will be Daniel Craig’s successor?

Whoever becomes the next Bond: the shoes to fill are big. When it was announced, the choice of Daniel Craig was viewed critically, but after 15 years and five films, the 56-year-old is now considered one of the best Bonds ever. With his mix of vulnerability and toughness, he had redefined His Majesty’s spy. With the choice of the successor, a decision on the direction of the series is expected: Will it continue to be serious? Is the slapstick of the Roger Moore era coming back? Or are the minds behind the series coming up with something completely new?

Some of the candidates also show that something much more fundamental could change with Bond. The absolute fan favorite Idris Elba would be the first non-white Bond and Jessica Chastain would be the first woman in the role of 007. Both have already officially ruled out the Bond role for themselves. Elba explained that the sometimes racist comments on the rumors had spoiled his mood for the idea. Chastain, on the other hand, can definitely imagine a big appearance in a Bond film – but she would rather be the villain. “I like the idea that Bond is afraid of me,” she said during a visit to Jimmy Fellon’s talk show.

The name is Bond, James Bond

An exciting question will also be how one justifies that the new character is called James Bond. While in the old films the origin didn’t play a role and the name could therefore be interpreted as a code name for different people, Craig’s film “Skyfall” put an end to that. By visiting his parents’ grave, it was finally established that it was indeed the agent’s family name.

By the way, the only transition from one Bond to the next occurred in a Bond film that even fans rarely know: In the first “Casino Royale” an aging James Bond is looking for his successor – who will then have the same name. But the parody, published in 1967, is not seen as part of the official series, despite being based on the novel by Ian Flemming.
