“James Bond is a legendary character”

At the risk of disappointing some, James Bond is a myth. Worse, the famous British secret agent would even have been a “poor” spy if he had existed, enough to be disillusioned. Too well known, too handsome, too chic, 007 is a “legendary character” as insisted by François Waroux, a former officer dealing with the DGSE, who is more commonly called “a spy”.

For twenty years, this specialist in industrial espionage and political intelligence has practiced his profession, far from the incredible adventures of 007. Forget the gadgets, racing cars and five-star hotels. “We have a completely false idea. I did not use planes, helicopters, high-end cars. We don’t live in luxury,” explains François Waroux.

• The rest of his testimony can be found in the video at the top of this article.

• A story to read also in the book “James Bond does not exist” published by Éditions Mareuil.
