According to an insider, Johnny Depp is said to be on the verge of a return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. What’s up with the rumour?

It’s been more than five years since Johnny Depp (59) was seen on the big screen as Captain Jack Sparrow. Ever since the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, it seemed unlikely that Depp would return to his iconic role. Because the star was embroiled in a lengthy legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard (36). Now, however, reports “The Sun”that the 59-year-old Depp will be in front of the camera for test shots for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” in England as early as February next year.

Conflicting inside sources

The upcoming film will have the working title “A Day At The Sea”. A director for the sequel has yet to be announced. An unnamed source told The Sun: “Johnny will be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow and filming is set to begin in early February at a top secret location in the UK […]. Johnny is expected to do a test shoot in early February before production gets underway.” Disney says it’s keeping it a secret, according to the insider.

At the same time, “Daily Mail” claims to have learned from sources that were also not namedthat the above information is incorrect and that Depp will therefore not be returning for the sixth part of the successful film series. The “New York Post” also claims to have learned from an anonymous source close to actor Deppthat the information given by “The Sun” is wrong.

“Pirates of the Caribbean 6” with Johnny Depp does not seem impossible

After Depp’s broadest victory in the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Heard, a return to the popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series does not seem impossible. Plans for a sixth part have existed for years. In addition, superstar Margot Robbie (32) said just a few days ago that the planned “Pirates of the Caribbean” spin-off film with her in the lead role will not be realized. However, only official announcements or reliable evidence such as leaked set photos showing Depp as Jack Sparrow can provide ultimate clarity on this question.

Financial interest in the continuation of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series

“Pirates of the Caribbean 2-4” has grossed around $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Only the fifth part “Salazar’s Revenge” weakened financially, but was still extremely profitable for the Disney group with a box office result of around 800 million US dollars worldwide. Overall, the film franchise has so far brought in the unbelievable sum of around 4.5 billion US dollars, and is currently the 13th most successful film series of all time. So, financially, the return of a rehabilitated dork as Jack Sparrow would make sense.
