“It’s over for us, we want to move from the Parc des Princes,” announces Nasser Al-Khelaïfi

The president of Paris Saint-Germain Nasser Al-Khelaïfi announced this Thursday, following a meeting in Paris of the UEFA executive committee, that Paris Saint-Germain would leave the Parc des Princes: “It’s over now, we want to move from the Parc des Princes.” A statement which comes two days after the Paris Council refused any sale of the venue to the capital club. “It’s too easy to say now that the stadium is no longer for sale. We know what we want, we wasted years trying to buy the Park. It’s over now, we want to move out of the Park”confided the Qatari leader.

According to L’Équipe, “PSG also explains that it will put an end to all development work at the Parc des Princes to concentrate on a move that management considers ‘forced'”.

Negotiations with the town hall at a standstill

PSG, engaged until the end of 2043 in a thirty-year long lease with the town hall, owner, considers the acquisition of the stadium essential to carry out its expansion project to 60,000 seats, compared to around 48,000 currently.

Negotiations with the municipality have been at a standstill for more than a year, with the Parisian executive refusing any transfer of the Porte de Saint-Cloud stadium. A position reaffirmed by the Paris Council on Tuesday, requesting that the modernization of the sports venue “is carried out within the framework of an arrangement satisfactory to all parties but not involving its transfer”.

At the beginning of January 2024, the deputy mayors of Paris Emmanuel Grégoire and Pierre Rabadan called on PSG to resume dialogue, saying they wanted to give it “guarantees” on a very long-term rental. Faced with the intransigence of the Town Hall, PSG considered several options, including a takeover of the Stade de France, before withdrawing its candidacy. The club is also studying the option of building another stadium in the Paris region.
