Also this year Apple invites you to a September event – and thus to the presentation of its new iPhones. This time the group should have more to show than ever before.

Every year in autumn, Apple invites you to what is probably its most important event. Usually on a Tuesday in September, the group then shows what has been concocted in the secret laboratories. Now the date has been made official: September 7th at 7 p.m. German time is the day.

What will Apple show?

What exactly will see the light of day on the virtual stage is of course still top secret. With great certainty, however, the group will have three product families in its luggage: the new iPhone models, the revised entry-level iPad and, for the first time, three models of the Apple Watch.

According to the rumor mill, Apple is said to be presenting four models of its smartphone, probably under the name iPhone 14, like last year. The design should remain largely the same, but the so-called notch should be omitted for the first time on the iPhone Pro, instead the front camera and FaceID sensor look out of the display through small holes. In addition, the screens of the Pro models should also display content when switched off. Progress is also expected with the camera. An important innovation: Instead of an iPhone Mini, Apple will probably also give the basic iPhone a Max model for the first time, which was previously only available from the iPhone Pro.

With the Apple Watch, the most important innovation is probably the introduction of a Pro model, which is said to be particularly robust. With the “normal” Apple Watch 8, the innovations should be rather moderate. The first new edition of the cheap Apple Watch SE should now provide the Spar-Watch with an always-on display that the more expensive models have had since the Apple Watch 5.

A new entry-level iPad should also be considered a given. The cheapest Apple tablet should now also be the last model to get the new, more angular design and USB-C. It should also support the second-generation clip-on Apple Pencil. However, a switch to Apple’s M1 chips, as was the case with the iPad Air in the spring, is very unlikely.

What’s next?

If you believe the rumor mill, Apple should still have a lot to show beyond the top product groups. The new Airpods Pro is likely to be the most anticipated new product. Apple’s premium in-ears should get better sound and a slimmer housing. The Airpods Max headband headphones are rumored to be able to play lossless digital music wirelessly soon, but that’s unlikely to happen this year. Instead, Apple is only supposed to offer new colors in September for the noble headphones, which have just skimmed off Stiftung Warentest.

In the home entertainment sector, Apple wants to strengthen its streaming service Apple TV + with a revised and possibly cheaper Apple TV. There should also be innovations in the Homepod, the voice speaker should be a little bigger again, and get a touch display on the top. However, it is still unclear whether this will also be the case in September.

Apple event: an unusual date

Incidentally, the date is noteworthy in two respects. On the one hand, it’s the earliest iPhone event in years, and on the other hand, it won’t take place on a Tuesday, as is usually the case, but on a Wednesday. At least the latter is likely to be related to a public holiday in the USA: Monday, September 5th is Labor Day. Because of the long weekend, US airports are jam-packed. Scheduling the event on Wednesday saves the guests arriving the day before from the resulting chaos. In 2018, Apple also put its event on Wednesday during Labor Day week.

What Apple also shows: We will inform you in detail on September 7th.
