It’s becoming clearer, Google would really go all out on updates

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro would be entitled to software monitoring extended to seven years (for security patches). We can also hope for more major Android updates on future smartphones.

Good news ahead for the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Future smartphones would be entitled to much better longevity thanks to a better update policy. This is in fact what the supposed detailed technical sheets shared on the site point out. 91mobiles in partnership with leaker Kamila Wojciechowska. The latter is not yet very famous, but she seems particularly well informed about the Mountain View firm’s upcoming products.

So let’s take the following information with a grain of salt, but it bodes well. Thus, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro would benefit from seven years of updates. Please note, it should be noted that we are not talking about major updates from one version of Android to another. In other words, smartphones would benefit from expanded software monitoring allowing them to still receive security patches seven years after their release.

Google is finally getting serious about updates

This would be a nice improvement. Support for Android updates is an area in which there is still a lot of effort to be made and Google unfortunately did not give the best image even though it is it which supervises the development of the operating system.

Just recently, it was rumored that Google finally wanted to improve with more software updates, especially to counter Samsung. The South Korean brand offers four years of major updates for five years of security updates. On the other hand, Google provides respective follow-ups of three and five years.

The information of 91mobiles and Kamila Wojciechowska therefore tend to confirm that Google will indeed lead a major offensive on security patches. It remains to be seen exactly how many versions of Android the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be able to claim. It would not be incongruous to hope for four or even five years of major updates in order to see Google finally set a good example and encourage other brands to do the same.

As a reminder, Google will present its Pixel 8 and 8 Pro on October 4. Note, however, that on the Android 14 side, the stable version seems to have fallen far behind schedule.
