Italy: What does Giorgia Meloni’s “female” mean? – Politics

Should the post-fascist become Italian prime minister, she would be the first woman to hold that office. Now a debate is raging about whether that would be a triumph for all Italian women and feminism – or not.

There’s a lot of debate about being a woman in Italy right now, and it’s almost entirely about Giorgia Meloni. Should her post-fascists win the elections and the right as a whole achieve a majority in parliament, as all polls suggest, the 45-year-old Roman would probably be the next prime minister. And that would be a significant first in the history of the Italian Republic. Meloni would, as they say in such cases, break the glass ceiling.
