Italy election: Visiting Mussolini’s birthplace, where he is worshiped

On Sunday, the heirs of fascism could win the elections in Italy. The country is facing a shift to the right. A visit to the birthplace of Benito Mussolini.

A shop window is being replaced in Predappio. Two men carefully lift the new, intact glass. The old pane is still there, completely cracked. As local newspapers report, stones were thrown against it during the night. The window belongs to a souvenir shop on the main street. The shop is still open on this sunny late summer day, two days before the election that will decide Italy’s political future.
