Italy before the European Championship final: “Celebrate sensibly”

Popular places in Rome are cordoned off, and several cities in Italy do without public viewing. The government appeals to adhere to the corona rules. If you win, you can still expect celebrations on the streets.

“Celebrate sensibly” – that is the appeal from Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese to the Italians before the final of the European Football Championship in the evening.

The corona pandemic has not yet been overcome, emphasizes Lamorgese, which is why she is counting on the Italians showing themselves responsible around the finals and complying with the anti-corona rules.

In the capital Rome alone, more than 1,000 law enforcement officers should ensure that possible celebrations after the game do not get out of hand. Popular places for celebrations, such as the square in front of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, have already been cordoned off.

No buses from the start of the game until the morning

From the start of the game at 9 p.m., there will be no more buses in the capital until early in the morning. Many Italian cities do without big screens and fan parties for fear of uncontrollable crowds. There will be no offers for public viewing in Milan, Turin, Naples and Palermo, among others.

Only two small fan areas

In Rome, considerations were stopped to offer a joint viewing of the finals in the Olympic Stadium. As with the previous Euro games, there are only two small fan areas in the city center in the Italian capital for a maximum of 2000 pre-registered visitors.

Spontaneous celebrations expected in the event of victory

The state television RAI reported that the majority of Italians would watch the game at home. If the Italian national team is successful, spontaneous celebrations are expected on the streets.
