The anti-Semitism debate continues to haunt Documenta, while the art world wonders why the Berlin Biennale is being postponed.
Who are the art experts who will be the artistic directors of the next Documenta choose should, has been certain since the end of March. But only recently is a statements the documenta directors from the years before 2022 became known: all of them, if still alive, were entrusted with putting together this commission intended to find the new director. In the short text that they published on the Kunstschau website, they report that their choice of names was “under strict conditions”. It was the “wish of the shareholders” – the state of Hesse and the city of Kassel – to avoid a “renewed BDS debate”. They would have accepted this wish.
