Israel’s oldest reservist: “I’m not afraid”

The horror of October 7th was a turning point in their lives: four Israelis look back on their 2023 – and tell us what they hope for the coming year. In this episode: Shlomo Elharar, probably the oldest reservist in the Israeli army.

Shlomo Elharar lives in idyll and war, in a bungalow at the foot of a chain of hills. In front of him, on the plain, eucalyptus forests and grapefruit groves sprout. Enemy territory begins beyond the hills, the south of Lebanon, the base of the Islamist terrorist militia Hezbollah. Just half an hour ago, a handful of rockets whizzed from there across the evening sky of the small town of Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. The air defense system intercepted all projectiles. But the day before there had been two impacts, not far from Elharar’s house.
