Israeli children in cages? Be careful about this video

  • A video showing children in cages has been circulating on social networks since this weekend.
  • Internet users see Israeli children kidnapped by Hamas.
  • The video was posted to TikTok several days before Hamas’s attacks on Israel began on Saturday.

The sequence caused a lot of reaction, while Israel still looking for hostages removed this weekend by the Hamas. For a few dozen seconds, a stranger films children locked in a cage. Many Internet users see Israeli children in this video held hostage by Hamas.

FAKE OFF

The video was posted on TikTok before the first attack launched by Hamas on Saturday morning. Fake Reporter, an Israeli fact-checking account, posted two screenshots of the video on Monday, indicating that it was posted “less than five days ago,” before the first attack on Saturday.

However, it is currently difficult to trace the origins of the video. The account that posted it on TikTok has been deleted. A reverse image search from screenshots of the video does not return relevant results. As for the caption that accompanies the video, visible in these screenshots, it does not provide any usable leads either. The Internet user reportedly wrote: “The Chinese people are oppressed in my country, there is no solution. »

On X, Internet users claim that the video was filmed in Syria, but without providing evidence for this assertion. Others point to a YouTube video, titled “Palestinian children locked in cages”, but these images are not included.

If new elements emerge regarding this video, 20 minutes will update this article.

Around 150 people are being held hostage by Hamas, which is threatening to execute them in response to Israeli strikes on Gaza. President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday condemned the “unbearable blackmail” carried out by Hamas regarding the hostages.
