Tel Aviv – An Israeli airstrike has killed some family members of a Hamas leader. Ismail Haniya receives a live call during a news broadcast on the Qatari broadcaster al-Jazeera. He is told the terrible news while the show is still running. And his reaction is surprising.
Three of his sons and at least four of his grandchildren are said to have died in the air raid on Wednesday (April 10). Reuters reported. Haniya, a high-ranking leader of the extremist terrorist organization Hamas, doesn’t bat an eyelid when he hears the bad news. In a statement shortly afterwards, the 62-year-old said: “I thank God for the honor he bestowed on us with the martyrdom of my three sons and several grandchildren.”
Hamas leader reacts coldly – According to the Israeli military, the sons were terrorists
The Israeli armed forces also confirm the killing of Hanija’s three sons. Accordingly, they belonged to an armed wing of Hamas and were therefore also terrorists. During the broadcast, the Hamas leader was even asked whether the broadcast should be canceled. He replies: “No, why? Let us continue.”
The three sons are said to have been Hazem, Amir and Mohammad Hanija. According to the Israeli military, the three were on their way to “carry out terrorist activities in the center of the Gaza Strip.” t online quoted. Haniya contradicts this account and stated that his sons and grandchildren were on their way to the Al-Shati refugee camp to celebrate breaking the fast there. Haniya is the diplomatic face of the Hamas organization internationally and operates out of Qatar. The 61-year-old further commented in a statement: “The blood of my sons is no more worth than that of our people.”
