Israel: What awaits the released hostages

How can the families help the hostages? Niva Meta looks after the relatives as a therapist in Tel Aviv. Those who have already been able to receive someone – and those who are still waiting.

Niva Meta is a therapist in the psychological support team for the families of the hostages in Tel Aviv. The 67-year-old was repeatedly called during the conversation, by colleagues from the hostage forum, but also by relatives of the hostages. She jumps up, rushes to have a conversation and comes back after a quarter of an hour. A number of family members and friends of missing people come and go. When a man drops a box of posters on the floor, many people whirl around in shock. Niva Meta presses her hand to her heart. “So is Israel right now,” she says. “The shock is still in our bones.”
