Israel returns Gazan workers stranded on its soil to Gaza, and announces cutting “all ties” with the territory

  • The Israeli army announced Thursday evening that it had “completed the encirclement of Gaza City”a week after the start of its ground operation in the Palestinian territory.
  • Israel has announced that it will send back to Gaza all Gazan workers stranded on its soil since the Hamas attack on October 7. Generally speaking, “Israel cuts all ties with Gaza, there will be no more Palestinian workers from Gaza”the Israeli security cabinet said in a statement.
  • Expected in Israel on Friday, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken begins his second tour of the Middle East since the start of the war. He will call for “concrete measures” to spare the civilians of Gaza.
  • The White House called for a pause “temporary, localized” fighting in the Gaza Strip, and not a general ceasefire, in order to allow “ humanitarian aid is coming in” and “people are going out”.
  • The powerful leader of Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, is due to speak on Friday and say whether his formation, allied with Palestinian Hamas and supported by Iran, will enter the conflict.
  • The Palestinian Red Crescent announced on Thursday that it had received 102 trucks of humanitarian aid at the Rafah crossing. “So far, a total of 374 trucks have been received, but no permission has yet been obtained to transport fuel”said the organization.
  • Israel has “deplored” the words of United Nations experts who believe that the Palestinian people “runs a serious risk of genocide”. Israel judges “deplorable and deeply worrying” that the experts “repeat propaganda made by the terrorist organization Hamas”in a message on the X network (formerly Twitter of the Israeli embassy in Geneva).
  • On Thursday, according to a UN report, 60 injured Palestinians as well as some 400 foreigners were able to leave Gaza via Rafah, the only window on the world for the territory besieged by Israel and plunged into a catastrophic humanitarian situation. A first contingent of more than 400 people was evacuated on Wednesday. Egypt said it was preparing to welcome up to “7,000” foreigners.
  • Israel announced that it had conducted a “vast strike” Thursday in southern Lebanon on targets of Hezbollah, ally of Hamas, in response to shots which targeted its territory. This strike left four dead in the ranks of Hezbollah, according to the Lebanese Shiite group.
  • Gaza’s health ministry, controlled by Hamas, announced Thursday that 9,061 people, including 3,760 children, were killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war.
  • IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said, Thursday morning, that “242 people” were held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He added that 332 Israeli army soldiers died in combat since October 7.
