What song does the earth sing? And how do we humans perceive nature around us? Immediately, physically or increasingly through digitally generated images that document the melting of the glaciers, for example? Lena von Goedeke deals with the existential dimensions of the experience of nature. The artist, who was born in Duisburg in 1983, went to the Arctic for her latest work. On several trips to Spitsbergen, most recently in February and March 2021, she collected impressions that she is now implementing in her work. In 2020 the jury of the Ismaning Kallmann Museum awarded her the Kallmann Prize for her examination of the subject of “landscape”. The solo exhibition “Soil’s Song”, which is part of the prize, is currently on view in Ismaning until July 18th.
This Sunday, June 27th, museum director Rasmus Kleine will talk to the artist about her work from 3 p.m. onwards. Goedeke first studied art history and later free art at the academies in Münster and Düsseldorf. In her conceptual and at the same time highly sensual work, she draws on a variety of artistic forms of expression and materials; For example, for the installation “Equipment first” in Ismaning, she combined clay, ink, water and a curtain with digital printing to create an impressive ensemble of a hike in the Arctic.
