Ismaning: New splendor for the Blue Hall – district of Munich

They are the pride of history-conscious residents of Ismaning: the two state rooms in Ismaning Castle with their historical murals. Commissioned at the beginning of the 19th century by Napoleon’s stepson Eugène de Beauharnais and his wife Auguste Amalie von Bayern, the two halls, decorated in the style of ancient Pompeian painting, are impressive and well-preserved examples of classicism.

The historical paintings in the Blue Hall in Ismaninger Schloss are currently being worked on by experts with fine brushstrokes.

So that this splendor can continue to delight other generations, the municipality of Ismaning is currently having the halls restored. With careful brushstrokes, the restorers Angelika Porst, Maria Knackmuss and Ute Schreiber give the paintings in the Blue Room a new shine. Dust and cobwebs were removed, smaller stress cracks filled where the paint had flaked off due to the ingress of moisture, was putty and the painting was restored. From the end of February, the Blue Hall, which once served the ducal family as a dining room and salon, will again be available to the community. Visits to the public are again scheduled for May 21, July and September.
