Preparations for an attack are said to have progressed well. Now the Attorney General has taken over the investigation into the case of an Islamist who has been in custody in Hamburg since the end of August.

After the terrorist plans of a suspected Islamist in Hamburg became known, the Federal Public Prosecutor took over the investigation.

The reason is the special importance of the case, said a spokesman for the federal prosecutor’s office in Karlsruhe on Monday upon request. The “Hamburger Abendblatt” had previously reported on it.

The Hamburg security authorities announced on Friday that a 20-year-old German Moroccan man had been arrested and had been in custody since the end of August. According to the information, he had tried to buy a pistol with ammunition and a hand grenade from an undercover agent on the Darknet.

During the search of an apartment he was using, chemicals for the construction of an explosive device were found. Last Wednesday, investigators searched the homes of contact persons of the terror suspect in several federal states.

According to information from the German Press Agency, the Federal Public Prosecutor took over the case because the preparations were well advanced. The man wanted to carry out an attack with as many dead and injured as possible, and the materials were enough to have a devastating effect. In addition, he was embedded in the radical scene.
