Islamic State claims responsibility for double attack in Iran

Two of its members “activated” their explosive belts at a “gathering of apostates” – with these words the jihadist militia IS has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Kerman, Iran.
The extremist militia Islamic State (IS) has committed itself to the two devastating attacks in known to Iran. This emerges from a statement by the Sunni group, which was distributed via the short message service Telegram. According to the jihadist militia, two of its members “activated” their explosive belts at a “large gathering of apostates.”
Almost 100 dead in attack in Iran
On Wednesday, almost 100 people were killed when two bombs exploded in Kerman in the southeast of Shiite-dominated Iran. They were attending a memorial service for General Qassem Soleimani, who was targeted in a US drone strike in Iraq four years ago to the day.
One of the two devastating explosions was caused by a suicide bomber, according to a report by Iranian state media. This was revealed, among other things, by the evaluation of video surveillance, reported the Irna news agency. The background to the second explosion has not yet been conclusively clarified. A suicide attack is also suspected.
Berlin speaks of an “act of terror”
The federal government and the EU condemned the attack as an act of terror. It was the deadliest attack in the 45-year history of the Islamic Republic.
