Concertmaster Naoka Aoki’s laugh says it all. It bursts out of her on the third bow as the audience hoots and cheers in unbridled euphoria as if Harry Styles were standing on stage. Unbridled euphoria is also good for a classical orchestra. One reason why the Munich Philharmonic’s youth concerts have become a fixture in the concert year. What’s wonderful is that the programming of these concerts – apart from the moderation by Malte Arkonas – is not at all youthful.
