A five-year-old girl was rescued from the Marienklause water roller on Monday afternoon. The child was bathing in the Isar when it was pulled in the direction of the water roller at Marienklausensteg because of the undercurrent, reports the Munich fire brigade. When the roller caught the girl and she could no longer free herself, she called for help.
The mother of the five-year-old and her companion were on the bank and heard the screams. The man immediately jumped into the water and took the girl in his arms. But even he could not leave the water roller. Both were pulled by the roller towards the east bank.
Two other men rushed into the water to help. Together they managed to save themselves on a concrete base protruding from the Isar.
From there they could be brought to safety by the fire brigade. All those involved were unharmed. The fire brigade strongly advises against swimming in the immediate vicinity of the Marienklausensteg. There is danger to life.
