The Munich transport company (MVG) does not know how to achieve the desired goals of the traffic turnaround. By 2025, three out of ten journeys made in the city are to be made using local public transport. It is unclear “whether the modal split target for public transport in Munich of 30 percent decided by the city council is currently achievable,” said a spokesman. The necessary expansion of the range of services with more trips by bus, tram and subway is “not financed” and “the necessary funds are largely lacking”. These would have to come primarily from the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria. Things don’t look much better for the major construction projects for local public transport.
