The Blaugrana would love to have Samuel Umtiti off the payroll. That turns out to be a difficult undertaking.

FC Barcelona continue to have major problems getting rid of defender Samuel Umtiti (28). The Frenchman, whose contract runs until 2023, should be given for some time. However, Umtiti’s services are not very popular with other clubs either.

So writes the Spanish Sports, A Barca negotiator offered an Umtiti transfer in talks with an undisclosed club boss. The club boss then only asked: “Is that a joke?” The report also says that Umtiti has long been spoken of as “our ex-player” among those in charge of Barcelona.

FC Barcelona: Samuel Umtiti receives high salary

The 2018 world champion has failed several times in the past due to severe knee injuries. He has made a meager appearance this season and has little chance of a regular place.

Barcelona officials are desperate to get Umtiti off the payrollbecause he is one of the top earners with a salary of around 12.5 million euros per year. Most recently, there was speculation about Benfica and Besiktas as possible new employers.

Barcelona brought Umtiti to Catalonia in 2016 for a € 25 million transfer from Olympique Lyon. With Barca, he has since won two Spanish championships and the Copa del Rey three times.
