Pruning can weaken the nasturtium
The nasturtium is an easy-care plant, it does well in gardens and, if given proper care, it does very well. Nevertheless, cutting it is far from necessaryon the contrary, the size may weaken it. Therefore, if your nasturtiums are contained in the space of your garden that you allocate to them, it is not necessary to prune them, on the contrary, let them flourish at their ease. You can still remove faded flowers as you go to promote the emergence of new flowers.
However, pruning may be necessary when the nasturtiums overflow the space allocated to them. It is, in fact, a plant that can proliferate quickly and invade the whole garden, annoying other plants, especially if it is a climbing variety. In this case, size becomes useful, since your goal is to limit proliferation of the plant in places where you don’t want to see it.
Regular watering in summer
If the nasturtium does not need pruning, it nevertheless requires regular maintenance. In particular, it must be watered frequently, especially during the hot season. This watering is all the more necessary if you have provided your nasturtiums with their ideal substrate, that is to say dry and very draining soil. However, avoid excess water. which can be harmful to this plant.
Also be sure to protect nasturtiums from their worst enemy: black aphids. To do this, you can lightly spray the leaves with black soap diluted in rainwater.
