Iranian animated film “The Siren” in the cinema: When the bombs fell – Culture

It’s been almost 25 years since an animated film freed the genre from having to exclusively tell fairy tales and fantasy material. In “Waltz with Bashir” in 2007, Israeli director Ari Folman dealt with his experiences as a soldier in the 1982 Lebanon War. There were packs of dogs chasing the main character in nightmares and night skies glowing with rocket fire. Memory became a canvas on which the remembered horrors of war were redrawn, in new images and new colors.
