Apparently, security forces have injured several professors from Sharif University in the Iranian capital, Tehran. This is reported by local media. Shots are said to have been fired.

According to local media reports, security forces in the Iranian capital Tehran used violence against students. After protests, several professors at the renowned Sharif University were also beaten, the Iranian newspaper “Emtedad” reported on Telegram. Police and security forces cordoned off the campus. Shots are said to have been fired.

Videos shared thousands of times on social media, the authenticity of which could not initially be verified, showed a strong presence of security forces. Many people accused the militias online of using violence and live ammunition against students.

The state media meanwhile spoke of a calm situation and accused the media abroad of spreading lies. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday again accused Iran’s “enemies” of conspiring against the state to isolate it. Their attempts “failed,” he said in Tehran.

Protests against the Islamic system

Since the beginning of the nationwide protests in Iran, students at numerous universities have demonstrated against the leadership of the Islamic Republic and its repressive course. The authorities then canceled lectures in many cities.

The demonstrations were triggered by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini a good two weeks ago. The moral police had arrested her because of her allegedly “un-Islamic outfit”. What happened to Amini after that is unclear. The woman fell into a coma and died in a hospital on September 16.

Critics accuse the morality police of using violence; the police deny it. Since the young woman’s death, thousands of people have been demonstrating across the country against the repressive course taken by the government and security forces, as well as against the Islamic system.

Support comes from many countries

After Iran’s violent crackdown on the protests after the death of the 22-year-old, thousands of people took to the streets in several countries on Sunday.

In Paris, thousands of people pledged their support to the demonstrators in Iran. Women with family ties to Iran, feminist groups and politicians gathered in Republic Square and then marched through the east of the French capital.

Women also expressed solidarity with Mahsa Amini and women in Iran in the city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey, which has a large Kurdish population, and in Izmir on the west coast. Rallies were also held over the weekend in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Bucharest and Beirut.
